Information for out-of-school youth

Adolescents outside school also need sexual and reproductive health information and services. Peer education activities for out-of-school youth are initiated. The component organizes exchange events with traditional circumcisers of boys and initiators of girls in order to support the dissemination of important reproductive health messages.

It is important that young people have adequate access to a reasonable range of affordable contraceptives, particularly condoms and to other reproductive health services. Most of the young people feel that current health services address them and their problems. There is a significant lack of facilities with staff trained in youth counseling, or of facilities providing special consulting hours or rooms set aside particularly for young people. The component is supporting the development of youth friendly services, for example by supporting NGOs in Tanga municipality in the extension of their youth activities.  Further support is being extended to the Regions Mtwara and Lindi to implement Adolescent / Youth Services in accordance with Tanzanian National adolescent Health and Development Strategy 2004-2008.
