Internship at TGPSH

The Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH) offers eligible/qualified foreign and Tanzanian students the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in TGPSH’s work. Below are the step–by-step procedures for interested students to be carefully considered when applying:

1.  Requirements:

    • You need to be currently-enrolled graduate or post-graduate student in a field related to TGPSH’s interests (bachelor’s degree, advanced diploma, or at least 1 year studying towards achieving a degree/diploma)
      Note: If your graduation date is more than six months ago at the time of applying for an internship, according to GTZ rules, you are not eligible for an internship and we will not consider your application.
    • Fluency in English
    • Ability to adapt and work in a multi-cultural working environment
    • Due to the complexity of the programme, we cannot offer internships for less than 3 months

2.  Submit your application (CV, cover letter, stating component of interest, timeframe of internship) in English electronically to the following address: vida.mwasalla@gtz.de

3.   After submission your application will be tabled to the management team meeting for their decision, which normally takes place every midmonth. Thereafter we will give you feedback on whether you have been selected or not. In case you have been selected, a phone interview may be conducted after.

4.   Once we have interviewed, chosen and informed you, we expect your response by email within 10 working days, whether you will do the internship or not.

5.  Once you have accepted the internship the following procedures below will apply:

5. A.  Foreign students are requested to submit the following documents (hard copies) for their work permit to Ms. Vida Mwasalla, C/o TGPSH -GTZ, P.O. Box 1519, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:

    • Photocopy of your full passport i.e. all pages including blank pages  
    • Copies of academic certificates or statements of results in English (if certificate is in any other language, it must be accompanied by a translated English version)
    • Six passport size photos
    • Print the permit form attached  and fill in your personal details, scan and email to vida.mwasalla@gtz.de

Ensure that you send all your documents for preparation of a work permit not less than 2 months before your arrival in Tanzania. As soon as we receive all your details, GTZ headquarters will draw up a contract. They will also provide you with letter of reference after your internship.

Foreign students shall obtain a 3-months tourist visa from their home country, and will receive their work permit upon arrival in Tanzania.

5. B. Tanzanian students are requested to submit copies of academic certificates or statements of results to Ms. Vida Mwasalla, C/o TGPSH - GTZ, P.O. Box 1519, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:. As soon as we receive all your details, GTZ Office Dar es Salaam will draw up a contract with you. TGPSH will provide you with letter of reference after your internship.

6.  Remuneration will be considered as follows:

6.1 For all interns who do an internship not following TGPSH’s studies/assessments, NO REMUNERATION will be offered. The intern has to bear all incurring costs him-/herself, and must state that he/she is able to self-fund the internship.

6.2 For foreign interns who do an internship based on TGPSH studies/assessments, or our requests, will receive the following:
- 1,000 Euro travel/visa/health insurance/vaccination costs (Only if there is no other financial support)
- 500 Euro monthly subsidy
Subsidy will be paid prior to internship by GTZ Headquarters as a lump-sum.

Since Tanzanian students will not have to bear high travel costs, the same conditions mentioned in point 6.1 will be applied, even if they work on a TGPSH proposed topic.

8.  If you provide us with your date of arrival, time and flight number we could arrange  to pick you up from the airport.
