World AIDS Day (WAD) 2009
As the World AIDS Day 2009 was commemorated 1st December 2009, staff of the German Development Cooperation and the German Embassy planned for various activities.
This year's slogan is:
"Universal Access and Human Rights"
United against HIV and discrimination -Together we make the difference
Ushirikiano dhidi ya UKIMWi na unyanyapaa - Kwa pamoja tutafanikisha
As a sign of solidarity and awareness on HIV and AIDS institutions/organizations were invited to form a ribbon sculpture with their staff, colleagues, partners and friends as shown above and on the previous page and on top of this page. By standing close to each other you form a ribbon shape,which will give a visible sign of this year's slogan "United against HIV and discrimination - Together we make the difference".
The photos have been shared on the next page, will be put on various web sites and have been published in the Guardian newspaper of 2nd December 2009. Media people in the regions/districts also documented the event.

The World AIDS Day 2009 - Tanga Municipality
High number of agencies dealing with HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health participated and exhibited their activities where groups of people, individuals and community at large got opportunities of observing the exhibition, sharing information, knowledge, different materials were given to visitors of all kinds. Moreover, visitors at the exhibition ground had a chance to get a VCT services and more than 3000 people where voluntarily counselled and tested where the results less than 105 people tested where found HIV positive.
Also there were a number of speeches from different representatives during the celebrations in the stadium, the government, and donor support agencies, the council of people living with HIV/AIDS, the region and religious representatives.
From the LGA the speech was presented by the regional commission of Tanga Hon. retired Brigadier Said Kalembo, TACAIDS was presented by executive chairperson Dr. Fatma Mrisho, MOHSW and POPSM was presented by the Minister of State, president office Public Service Management, Hon. Hawa Ghasia (MP) and the Development Partner Group (DPG-AIDS) was presented by the American Ambassador Alfonso E. Lenhardt, and the government speech was presented by the Prime Minister Hon. Mizengo Kayanda Petro Pinda.
