STD Control
The treatment of sexually transmitted diseases others than AIDS is a scientifically proven way to reduce the further spread of HIV infections. The method to be used is the syndromic case management of patients including syndromic oriented treatment and health education.
The continuous education of the community about symptoms of STDs and the importance of early treatment compliments the service offered at the health facility. Also the syphilis testing of pregnant women visiting antenatal clinic for the first time is part of an effective STD control.
The programme supports therefore the training of service providers, assessment of health facilities if ready and equipped, monitoring of services and evaluation of quality of services.
The STI leaflet is available for download.
