Safety in Health Facilities

HIV infections and other infections can be transmitted through procedure in a health facility, insufficient sterilisation of equipment and inappropriate handling of waste. Equally, health workers risk acquiring an infection through their work.

To prevent these transmissions health workers have to use standardised sterilisation procedures, and to ensure proper treatment of waste generated at the facility.

It is also important to ensure safe blood transfusions by reliably testing all blood before given to a patient. Sterilisation guidelines are distributed and proper sterilisation procedures and waste disposal as well as safe handling of instrument are encouraged during supervison and included in the supervision guidelines.
