Information Education and Communication (IEC)
There are different methods of Information, Education and Communication available. According to the audience and the setting different approaches are used. Flyers, booklets and leaflets, posters or any other kind of printed material are produced and distributed. Additionally, special events such as action days, drama shows, film shows attract a big audience and transport important messages on how to prevent an HIV infection or how to live with the virus or support infected people. Also TV or radio shows a good means to reach a large part of the population and give a forum for discussion and information.
Another way of communicating important messages is the use of peer educators. These are people who come from the same group of people to be educated and therefore make it easier for them to accept advice.
The Programme has supported the training of peer educators for sex workers and truck drivers in so called high transmission areas and at workplaces.
With the support of the component the Districts develop and distribute written material; train drama groups in order to perform in the villages or organize and moderate video shows.
