Welcome!

The Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH) was launched in 2003, with the involvement of the different organizations of the German Development Cooperation (GDC) in order to jointly assist Tanzania's Health Sector Reform in a Sector Wide Approach (SWAp). We  provide policy, strategy and technical advice to relevant public and private sector institutions and  share the same goal as the Health Sector Reform:

"To improve the health and well being of all Tanzanians, with focus on those most at risk and to encourage the health system to be more responsive to the needs of the people".

We work closely with a range of Tanzanian governmental and non-governmental institutions and  assist the government’s health sector. Using a multi-level approach (national, regional and district), we have contributed to an improved multi-sectoral response to HIV, enhanced management capacities in the health financing system, quality improvement in various parts of the health system and the establishment of Public-Private Partnerships at regional and district levels.

The German organizations GIZ (technical cooperation) and KfW (financial cooperation) contribute to TGPSH, and focuses in the four regions: Lindi , Mbeya, Tanga and Mtwara.

Our support comprises the following areas:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, including HIV and AIDS
  • Health Financing and Social Health Protection
  • Capacity Development and Human Resources
  • Decentralised Subsidiary (Public and Private) Health Services
